LG’s monitors come with an unwanted addition for Windows: McAfee pop-up ads

A video from Gamers Nexus explains how, after connecting a new LG UltraGear monitor to a PC running Windows 11 for the first time, Windows Update is silently installing LG driver updates and the LG Monitor App Installer, without so much as a permission pop-up or notification. The app doesn’t appear to include special controls […]

OneDrive will block screenshots of sensitive documents, but only in Microsoft’s own browser.

Starting next month, OneDrive and SharePoint will block screen captures when enterprise users open certain sensitivity-labelled PDFs in Microsoft Edge. The restriction applies to documents carrying a Purview Information Protection label without the Copy (EXTRACT) permission. When those conditions are met, screenshot blocking activates by default. Personal OneDrive accounts and unlabelled files are not affected. […]

Microsoft will stop syncing OneDrive on older Windows 10 versions next month

Microsoft will end OneDrive synchronisation support for Windows 10 versions before 22H2 on August 15. After that date, users on older builds will receive no more sync app updates, bug fixes, or security patches. The service itself will not immediately stop working, but Microsoft says “future functionality is not guaranteed.” Windows 10 22H2, the final […]

Even Microsoft couldn’t make Windows 11 work well on 8GB of RAM

Last year, Microsoft’s 13-inch Surface Laptop quickly became one of my favorite thin-and-light Windows notebooks. At $900, it was easy to recommend to anyone wanting MacBook Air-like build quality and battery life on Windows – I even convinced my sister to buy one on sale. But that was last year. This year, thanks to RAMageddon, […]

Companies are […]

Microsoft’s record Patch Tuesday, and it says AI found the bugs

Microsoft has never shipped a bigger security update. Its July Patch Tuesday fixed a record haul of flaws, and the company says AI is why the count keeps climbing. The scale is hard to ignore. By Microsoft’s own count, the update patched 622 vulnerabilities. That more than tripled June’s tally, which had set a record […]

Microsoft is coaching its salespeople to talk down the models it still runs on

Microsoft executives spent an internal meeting on Tuesday teaching the sales force how to run down OpenAI, Google, and Anthropic, which would be unremarkable except that two of those companies supply the models inside Microsoft’s own products. The session was billed as a strategy kickoff for the fiscal year that began this month, and it leaned […]

Windows 11’s big patch Tuesday allows you to hold off on updates for longer

Microsoft just released a long list of improvements for Windows 11 as part of its bigger patch Tuesdays, and that includes the ability to pause updates indefinitely, as reported earlier by Windows Central. This option rolled out to Windows Insiders earlier this year, allowing you to hold off on updates for up to 35 days […]
